What to do in Kerala? 6 places you can’t miss [Guide 2025]

Hey there, fellow wanderlusters! Eric from Funky Fresh Travels here, and boy, do I have a treat for you today! I just got back from what I can only describe as the most mind-blowing adventure through Kerala, and I’m bursting to share every detail with you.

Trust me, after reading this, you’ll be booking your tickets faster than you can say “backwaters”! Cruising through Kerala’s serene backwaters – one of my favorite moments!

Let me tell you something – when people call Kerala “God’s Own Country,” they’re not kidding around . This slice of paradise in South India has literally everything: pristine beaches kissing the Arabian Sea, mist-covered hill stations that look like they’re straight out of a fairy tale, and tranquil backwaters that’ll make you forget what stress even feels like.

Okay, real talk – timing is everything when it comes to Kerala. After three visits (yes, I’m obsessed!), I can tell you that October to February is absolutely the best time to visit. The weather is perfect – not too hot, not too wet, just right for exploring everything this magical place has to offer. Trust me, you don’t want to be trekking through tea plantations during the monsoon season (been there, done that, got completely soaked!).

The breathtaking tea plantations of Munnar – my morning view!

Picture this: You’re standing 1,600 meters above sea level, surrounded by endless waves of emerald-green tea plantations, with mist rolling over the Western Ghats . That’s Munnar for you! As a nature lover, I spent three days here, and honestly, I could’ve stayed forever. Don’t miss the Eravikulam National Park – I spotted the rare Nilgiri Tahr (those mountain goats are seriously photogenic!) .

I spent a week here just chilling at the beach cafes and practicing yoga – pure bliss!

Kerala’s rich cultural heritage is something else! I caught a Kathakali performance in Kochi (those costumes are insane!), and visited some ancient temples that literally took my breath away. The best part? I stayed with a local family in a homestay near Kottayam district, and they taught me how to cook traditional Kerala cuisine – my coconut curry game is strong now!

The nearest airport depends on where you’re heading first. I flew into Trivandrum International Airport, but Cochin International Airport is another great option.

Kerala has an excellent railway station network – I used trains for most of my inter-city travel.

For exploring within cities, auto-rickshaws are your best friend!

From luxury resorts in the backwaters to cozy homestays in the hill stations, Kerala has something for every budget. My top tip? Mix it up! I did a combination of homestays, heritage hotels, and one splurge-worthy resort in Kumarakom.

After spending a month exploring Kerala (and already planning my next trip!), I can honestly say this place is pure magic. From the tranquil backwaters to the misty hill stations, from the pristine beaches to the dense forests, Kerala is a destination that’ll change the way you think about travel.Whether you’re a beach lover, nature enthusiast, or culture vulture, Kerala’s got you covered.

The best tourist places here aren’t just spots on a map – they’re experiences that’ll stay with you forever. And don’t even get me started on the food! (Actually, maybe that’s another blog post altogether!)So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags, book those tickets, and get ready for an adventure of a lifetime in God’s Own Country.

Trust me, you won’t regret it!Have you been to Kerala? Planning a trip? Drop your questions in the comments below – I’d love to help you plan your perfect Kerala adventure!

WHO AM I ?

Hello! I’m Eric, a French Australian citizen based between Australia, Asia and Bali and I love to travel and experience the world. I generally like outdoor activities, wellness, great food and venues , party and real local adventures ! I am a Yoga practitioner and fitness lover

I created this blog because I love to travel and I want to share my experiences with others. I’ve been traveling since I was a child, and I’ve been to over 50 countries. I’ve seen some amazing things and met some amazing people, and I want to help others experience the same things.

Eric blog 1 8

I believe that travel is one of the best ways to learn about the world and about yourself. When you travel, you’re forced to step outside of your comfort zone and experience new things. You learn about different cultures, different religions, and different ways of life. You also learn about yourself, your strengths, and your weaknesses.

Travel can also be a great way to make new friends. When you’re traveling, you’re surrounded by people from all over the world, and you’re all in the same boat. You’re all there to explore and experience new things, and that can create a bond between people.

Let’s connect together!

I hope that my travel blog will inspire others to travel and to see the world. I also hope that it will help people to learn about different cultures and to become more open-minded.
