Aqua Yoga Bali : my 2 favourites water experience

Hey funky fam! Eric here from Funky Fresh Travels, and today I’m giving you the no-BS, straight-from-my-own-mat rundown on the two absolute best places for private aqua yoga in Bali right now. I’ve done sessions with both of them multiple times this year, so everything below is 100% real-life tested.

I’m listing them completely separately (with their own headings, photos in your mind, contacts… the whole deal) so you can pick the one that vibes with your trip. Let’s splash in!

My two favourite providers are ADDA YOGA and The SPA at MAYA Sanur

Aqua yoga is yoga practiced in water – usually a warm, chest-deep pool – and it’s honestly one of the most joyful, healing twists on traditional yoga I’ve ever tried. Imagine doing your favorite hatha, vinyasa, or yin yoga poses while the water cradles 90 % of your body weight: suddenly warrior flows feel effortless, backbends open without strain, and even tricky balances turn into playful floating experiments.

The buoyancy reduces pressure on joints and spine, making it perfect for beginners, people with injuries, pregnant mamas, or anyone who finds mat yoga a bit intense. At the same time, the water’s gentle resistance quietly builds a strong foundation and tones muscles you didn’t know you had. Most sessions blend classic yoga postures, pranayama (breath work), and floating meditation sessions, often ending with supine poses where you just lie back, supported by noodles or belts, and let the ripples wash away every last bit of thought chatter.

In Bali, we do it in heated villa pools or resort lagoons, so it feels like a mini water healing ceremony. The result? Deep relaxation, better flexibility, happier nervous system, and that goofy smile you can’t wipe off for hours. It’s yoga that finally learned how to chill. 🌊🧘‍♂️

Aqua Aerobic Ayodya bali

(They come to YOUR villa pool – Canggu, Ubud, Seminyak, Uluwatu, wherever you’re staying)

This is my #1 go-to when I want aqua yoga without leaving my rice-field view. ADDA literally rolls up to your door with floaties, waterproof speakers, and a super-chilled certified teacher. I’ve had sunrise sessions in my private pool in Pererenan and sunset sessions at a clifftop villa in Bingin — both were stupidly magical.

What I love:

  • 60 or 90-minute fully private sessions (1-on-1, couples, or small groups)
  • Teachers mix hatha yogavinyasa yogayin yoga, and breath work perfectly for water
  • They’ll even add floating sound healing with crystal bowls if you want to go full cosmic
  • Zero travel stress — they bring everything

(Location: Maya Sanur Resort & Spa, Jl. Danau Tamblingan 89, Sanur)

When I feel like being spoiled rotten and floating in a proper infinity pool while staring at the ocean, I book here. Their aqua yoga is done in the stunning lagoon pool or the rooftop infinity pool — both heated to the perfect temperature.

The vibe is next-level luxury but still relaxed (think Five-Star hotel meets Bali soul). Teachers are all Yoga Alliance certified, speak perfect English, and actually adjust poses to your body instead of just shouting “float deeper!”

What I love:

  • Sunrise and sunset slots available
  • Private = really private (no random hotel guests jumping in)
  • Complimentary cold towel + infused water + post-session herbal tea
  • You can roll straight into the spa café for vegan options like smoothie bowls afterward
  • Non-guests are totally welcome

Cancellation policy: 48 hours for external guests, 24 hours for in-house.

There you have it — my two ride-or-die private aqua yoga spots in Bali, listed completely separately so you can screenshot whichever one is calling your soul (or book both like I do when I’m feeling extra bendy).

Living in Bali feels like I’ve hacked the code to the simple life, you know? Waking up to roosters crowing and the scent of frangipani, then slipping into a session that blends aspects of yoga practices with water healing—it’s my daily ritual. I’ve been here long enough to know the field of yoga inside out, from vinyasa yoga sun salutes at dawn to yin yoga unwinds at dusk. But aqua yoga? Oh man, it’s the game-changer for anyone dodging the physical aspects of yoga on land. The buoyancy lifts you up, making supine poses and yoga postures feel effortless, while the resistance builds that strong foundation without a single ache. I’ve dragged friends—new people popping into my Bali bubble—for these sessions, and every time, it’s like we’ve unlocked the beauty of the present moment together.

Diving deeper into why these two reign supreme for private aqua yoga in Bali, it’s all about that blend of fun and function. ADDA wins for flexibility—literally and logistically—zipping to your door for a private yoga class that fits your wild Bali itinerary. Maya’s edge? The resort’s retreat package vibe, where you can layer on a 200 hour yoga teacher training teaser or meditation retreat extension.

Both spots emphasize the benefits of yoga: from boosting circulation and easing joint pain (hello, strong foundation without strain) to quieting the mind’s thought chatter for pure deep relaxation. I’ve seen yoga journey newbies transform into flow fiends, their bodies thanking the water for that low-impact love. And for us casual cats, it’s entertaining as heck—splashing through ashtanga yoga poses or giggling over wonky supine poses in the pool. No stuffy vibes here; it’s like yoga met a pool party and decided to elope.

Bali’s aqua yoga scene isn’t just a trend—it’s a lifeline for the modern soul. Amid the island’s chaos (hello, endless traffic and temptation of warung eats), these sessions ground you in the natural world, fostering that simple life we all chase. I’ve hosted mini special events at both, from solo traveler resets to buddy yoga classes with fresh faces. ADDA’s villa drops mean you stay in your own company if that’s your jam, while Maya’s on-site setup lets you wander the entire property for impromptu breath work strolls. If you’re eyeing a longer dip, ask about retreat packages—Maya’s got ’em bundled with spa treatments, ADDA pairs with private room pilates.

One quirky twist I’ve loved? Incorporating Bali flair, like using eco-friendly bamboo sticks for balance cues (shoutout to ADDA’s creative crew). It ties back to traditional yogic teachings, making the physical aspects of yoga feel alive and local. Whether you’re sculpting for body shape goals or just seeking total relaxation, these providers get it. I’ve even snuck in pranayama & shat routines during rainy afternoons—water’s warmth turns ’em into pure bliss. For yoga learners building a strong foundation, start with Maya’s guided flows; for advanced vinyasa yoga twists, ADDA’s your wild card.

As a solo traveler who’s made Bali home base, I’ve tested the waters (pun intended) far and wide, and these two stand tall. They’re not cookie-cutter; they’re crafted for individual needs, from gentle yin yoga for recovery to powerhouse ashtanga yoga for energy.

The unforgettable experience? That moment when the pool’s ripples sync with your breath, and suddenly, you’re one with the inner being. It’s the kind of wonderful experience that has you booking round two before you’re dry.

Wrapping this splashy tale, if you’re plotting your Bali escape, prioritize these private aqua yoga gems. They’re the heartbeat of my yoga journey here—fun, authentic, and oh-so-fresh. Is aqua yoga harder than normal yoga?Nope — it’s actually easier on the joints and way more playful because the water supports 90% of your weight.

Do I need to know how to swim? Not at all. The pools are shallow enough to chest-deep and you’re wearing a flotation belt the whole time.

What should I wear?Normal swimsuit or board shorts + rash guard. No cotton — it gets heavy.

Can beginners do private aqua yoga?Absolutely! Both places are amazing with first-timers and will scale everything to your level, focusing on correct alignment and yoga anatomy basics.

What are the benefits of aqua yoga?It offers water healing through low-impact yoga postures, improved flexibility, stress relief via meditation sessions, and a transformative experience for personal growth—all in warm pools for deep relaxation

See you in the water, fam! 🌊🧘‍♂️
