Ubud in My Dreams

On my first morning in Ubud, I was greeted by the tranquil sounds of roosters crowing, temple bells ringing, and the subtle rustling of palm leaves in the breeze. My choice to stay at a family-run guesthouse was critical to my overall experience of Ubud.

In Ubud, there are both luxurious resorts and inviting homestays. Still, I selected the latter to immerse myself in the local culture. The pleasant Balinese family who would be my hosts greeted me with open arms, and I instantly felt at ease there. They showed me the “canang sari,” or daily offerings, which are made of colourful flowers, rice, and incense and play an important role.

A visit to Ubud’s Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is a must for nature lovers. An archaeological site in Bali is called Pura Gunung Kawi. Because people didn’t know how to build dwellings back then, large temples and residences were cut out of the rocks in ancient times. Beautiful rice paddies surround the entire area. An activity that is highly suggested in Ubud!

4. Explore Monkey Forest Ubud

Picture105 Things to Do in Ubud

Visits to the Monkey Forest are among the most well-liked activities in Ubud. A lovely park without a fence is located right in the middle of the city, where many monkeys spend most of the day.

Even if you don’t like monkeys, the park itself is a sizable rainforest and a lovely walk that allows you to get away from the busy city life. You can easily spend two hours here, and the ticket is only 50000 IDR.

Although intelligent, Ubud monkeys are not the friendliest lot. Be careful because there’s a considerable chance you’ll be robbed of your sunglasses, drinks and any miscellaneous items they could find.

The park requests that you abide by the following regulations since, while the monkeys are not particularly interested in you, keep in mind that they are wild, mischievous animals.

Do not direct your gaze at them.

Avoid smiling; it isn’t very nice to show your teeth.

Could you not give them food?

Avoid touching the infants.

Remove all loose objects from your bag, such as jewelry, sunglasses, and food.

5. Campuhan Ridge Walk

Head to Campuhan around dusk; it is the bridge where the two rivers converge in the heart of Ubud. The two-kilometer Campuhan Ridge Walk is particularly well-liked by both residents and tourists.

Some visitors come for dog walks, brisk runs, or scenic photo opportunities. There are no tickets, so that you can venture on for free!

6. Splash the waters at Kanto Lampo and Tibumana.

The stream A stunning, tall wall of water known as Kanto Lampo is a popular place to climb. On weekends, locals like to hang out. A little pool area is located in front of the waterfall. Jump in the water, take a leisurely swim, then take a shower. Simple 3-minute downhill stroll from the parking.

Kanto Lampo is about a 15-minute ride away from the powerful Tibumama waterfall. You can swim in front of the waterfall after a short descent.

Be careful because the power of the water dropping here is typically quite tremendous. The cost of entry is 10,000 IDR.

7. Goa Gajah, Elephant Cave

Not here, you won’t find elephants or cruelty to animals. A rock-cut meditation cave is located not far from Ubud. It is simple to see this little temple. Each participant must pay 15000 IDR to enter. Free sarongs are available inside near the admission counter.

8. Adventure on with White Water Rafting

Picture109 Things to Do in Ubud

White water rafting and tubing are two of the most well-liked activities in Ubud. Going down these rivers is a fantastic and reviving experience, whether you do it alone where you meet individuals or with a group. With our buddies, tubing was a blast.

The most exciting way to navigate the river is via tub cruising! It’s the ideal way to enjoy the scenery while talking on the Pakerisan River’s rapids and swimming through the caverns until you reach the charming Tegallalang Village.

The typical time is from 8 AM until 1 PM. Rafting costs 445000 IDR ($30), while tubing costs 600000 IDR ($40). Naturally, prices decrease as the population increases.

9. Shop at Ubud Market

Picture110 Things to Do in Ubud

The Ubud Market is open every day in the heart of the city. There are two separate timetables. From 3 AM to 8 AM, the traditional market where meat and vegetables are sold opens.

At nine in the morning, the market transforms into the Art Market, where everything from handbags to kitchenware to decorations, paintings, and trinkets is for sale.

Due to the Ubud bag’s success as a global fashion accessory, these lovely bags are available in every store.

10. Go on rice field walks.

The tranquil walk through the rice fields in Ubud is undoubtedly one of the less popular activities there. A 45-minute walk across a pad takes you past picturesque farms and fields. Although it is in the middle of the town, the exact route is still being determined because it is somewhat obscured.

Finally, halt midway through the Ubud rice fields and walk at either Sari Organik or Sweet Orange Restaurant to enjoy a delectable supper while the sun is setting over the rice fields. It is most likely Ubud’s top dining spot!

What struck me the most about Ubud was the sense of community and the preservation of tradition. The people’s pride in their culture is visible in how they greet and engage with visitors. Ubud residents are committed to maintaining their heritage, whether through daily rituals, art, dance, or cuisine.

As my stay in Ubud concluded, I couldn’t help but reflect on the profound impact it had on me. I had not only witnessed but also briefly engaged in Ubud’s local and traditional culture. Ubud’s breathtaking surroundings are only one component of the city’s allure.

WHO AM I ?

Hello !

I am Eric, a French Australian citizen based between Australia, Asia and Bali an I love to travel and experience the world. I generally like outdoor activities, wellness, great food and venues , party and real local adventures ! I am a Yoga practitioner and fitness lover

I created this  blog because I love to travel and I want to share my experiences with others. I’ve been traveling since I was a child, and I’ve been to over 50 countries. I’ve seen some amazing things and met some amazing people, and I want to help others experience the same things.

I believe that travel is one of the best ways to learn about the world and about yourself. When you travel, you’re forced to step outside of your comfort zone and experience new things. You learn about different cultures, different religions, and different ways of life. You also learn about yourself, your strengths, and your weaknesses.

Travel can also be a great way to make new friends. When you’re traveling, you’re surrounded by people from all over the world, and you’re all in the same boat. You’re all there to explore and experience new things, and that can create a bond between people.
